REPORTS TO:  Sustainability Specialist

FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The Sustainability Associate manages Bell’s solid waste programs at all locations including staff training, education, communications, and event waste planning while also providing support for the daily operations of the Environmental and Social Sustainability Department. 



• Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery.

• Oversees solid waste programs at all Bell’s locations, serving as point of contact and liaison for Bell’s solid waste management partners. 

• Develops cost-effective opportunities to continuously improve solid waste systems at all Bell’s locations through waste audits, data collection, data analysis, best practice reviews and knowledge of current industry standards.

• Coordinates with multiple departments and partners to develop and support waste handling systems and product sourcing options designed to minimize or eliminate landfill waste for various Bell’s events. 

• Supports Sustainability Specialist in developing data and researching best practices to increase efficiency of water, natural gas, and electricity use at multiple locations. 

• Develops and manages data collection programs relevant to utility use and trains employees on protocol.

• Develops sustainability-related employee educational and informational content for use in formats including E-Learning modules, bulletin boards, and instructional binders. 

• Manages accumulation, storage, disposal, and operations related to high-value and high-volume recycling materials. 

• Maintains waste-related building maps. 

• Administers Adopt-a-Highway program.

• Performs KPI entry and analysis.

• Supports Environmental and Social Sustainability Department with daily duties and special projects. 

• Assists in documenting processes as they relate to standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

• Participates in and assists with administration of the Bell’s Sustainability Committee.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license



• Fork lift truck

• Company vehicle

• Computer and standard office equipment (printer, scanner, copier, laminator)

• Interaction with waste collection equipment (dumpsters, hoppers, and bins)



• Strong time management skills with a proven ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines

• Demonstrated  knowledge of  Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Excellent oral, analytical, written, and group presentation communication skills

• Ability to collaborate, communicate, and relate to people at all levels within and outside of the organization

• Self-directed individual who is a team player

• Ability to work independently with little supervision – self motivated


• A bachelor degree or equivalent work experience in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field 

• Familiarity with Cost Benefit Analysis

• Research, data collection, and data analysis experience

• Event planning and/or event waste management experience

• Waste auditing experience

• History of project implementation with attention to behavior change and communications components

• Familiarity with byproducts of the brewing, fermentation, and packaging processes at a craft brewery is a benefit

• Experience with Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign is a benefit

• While performing each of the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, use a computer and other office equipment. 

• Frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasional lifting up to 58 pounds

• Job duties require work in an office setting with frequent trips into operational areas. Occasionally will work partial days outdoors.
