Bell's Brewery on 'world's best' list

The Web site Ratebeer.com has released its 2008 Top 100 Brewers in the World and three area breweries made the cut with Kalamazoo's Bell's Brewery Inc. taking the top place at No. 4. Beer lovers create and account on the site and submit reviews. More than 76,000 beers from 8,000 brewers worldwide were reviewed. There were more than 1.4 million reviews, based on 2007 beers. Bell's trailed only Stuise, of Belgium; Three floyds, of Indiana; and Port Brewing/Lost Abbey, of California. Also making the list were Founders Brewery Inc., in Grand Rapids, at No 7, and The Livery, in Benton Harbor, at 36th place. The latter is owned by Kalamazoo resident Steve Berthel.
