Eventually, Willamena earned a reputation as the hardest-working band in Michigan, and surpassed over 140 other acts to win the Grand Rapids-based Aris Hampers/101.3FM Hometown Rock Search (2001-2002). In May, 2002, Willamena released their second album, GHOST OF JULY, to excellent local reviews, selling out in short order. Willamena's third album, FAR FROM THE CURRENT, was released in February, 2004, once again to exceptional reviews (XM radio's Top Ten, Buzzplay.com's ..3, and most recently the album was the front-page feature on theindustryresource.com). Theater http://www.bellsbeer.com/index.php/bands/elist Sun , Jul 27 : "Joe Wang and the Test Piolets" Joe Wang and the Test Pilots is a band for people who grew up watching Saturday Morning cartoons. It is for people who sit through a movie's credits to catch the name of a certain song that played for 20 seconds in the movie. If you know who the Plimsouls are, you're it. If you still have a favorite album that isn't yet released on CD, you're it. Did you watch Saturday Night Live and were excited by the musical guest or only watched it for the musical guest? JWTP is a retro band that doesn't sound retro. In the best words, we entertain ourselves but our audience tends to have a good time as well. Oh yeah... and one of the guys has band hair and is rumored to hold it all together. The band got it's name one day when Pete called Tommy and said I need a name for my band. Tommy said `Joe Wang and the Test Pliots` . Pete asked `where'd that come from?` The Wang part came from a computer game called Shadow Warrior. The main character was Wang. And when the game fired up a war cry of `Who wanta some Wang!!` would blast out of the speakers.
