JOB TITLE: Shift Lead - Brewing

LOCATION: Comstock Brewery

REPORTS TO: Brewing Personnel Manager

FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Non-Exempt Hourly Employee

SHIFT: Wednesday – Saturday 9:00 pm – 7:00 am

SUMMARY: As a key member of the Brewing leadership team, the Shift Lead-Brewing will be responsible for all day-to-day Brewing activities and oversight of brewers on their assigned shifts. 



• Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc. and is accountable for the safety of his/her direct reports.

• Leads all day-to-day Brewing activities on assigned shift.

• Facilitates communication within his/her team, between shifts, with brewing management and with other departments. 

• Promotes cooperation and teamwork 

• Ensures Bell’s quality standards through all Brewing activities.

• Advocates a continuous improvement culture through close collaboration with the Process Improvement team.

• Manages team’s scheduling and timecards.

• Actively engages his/her team towards developing their professional goals.

• Conducts quarterly updates and annual performance reviews with all direct reports.

• Effectively represents team’s needs in regularly scheduled Brewing meetings regarding production scheduling, beer quality, and human resources.

• Consistently administers Bell’s policies and procedures on his/her shift.

• Assists in developing, maintaining and ensuring compliance to all department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with subject matter experts.

• Holds self and employees accountable for maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment.

• Ensures completion of Brewer Preventative Maintenance tasks in collaboration with the Brewing Personnel Manager.

• Reviews and acts upon critical process control data.

• Troubleshoots and solves production problems in a systematic fashion.

• Works off shifts including weekends and holidays as needed 

• Responsible for selecting and training of new Brewing team members for assigned shift.

• May be asked to represent Bell’s Brewery in various educational and promotional events.


Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  



• Computers and other process automation systems

• Brewing raw materials

• Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals

• Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

• Fork lift/aerial lift truck

• Compressed air or other gasses, including CO2.



• Exceptional leadership skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort addressing diverse groups.

• Computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.

• An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.

• A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.

• Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.

• Self-motivated with good time management skills.

• Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.



• Extensive brewery experience, including roles in leadership positions.

• Enthusiasm for craft beer and a commitment to quality.

• Demonstrated understanding of the brewing process.

• Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.

• A brewing, science, engineering or similar education background is preferred.
