How to embrace the Winter with Oberon Eclipse

January 31, 2024

There’s a foot of snow on the ground. The temperatures have dropped into the teens (and below!). And the wind is blowing all around.

What are you going to do, just sit inside and wait for it to pass?

Heck no!

As born and bred Michiganians, we’re just not used to it, we embrace it. And Oberon Eclipse is just the beer for the “off season.” It’s everything we love about the colder temperatures, longer nights, and seeing our breath in the air.

We all know that you can ski and snowboard, but that’s not for everyone. Here are some tips on how to enjoy the cold and snow, the Eclipse way.

Outdoor activities

OK, enough with the winter lesson. How can you enjoy winter in the most Eclipse way? Here are some ideas to inspire your next snow-filled adventure.

  • Winter hike: It can take a little preparation – and snowshoes if you’re so inclined – but hiking in the winter is a wonderful experience and a great break from being inside. Research trails in your area that are open in the winter (here’s a good list for Michigan from our friends at Pure Michigan) and what gear you might need.
  • Polar Plunge: Often organized to raise money for local charities, dipping into a body of ice-cold water is a tradition worth taking part in… or standing on the shore as your friends do.
  • Sledding or tobogganing: This shouldn’t just be a memory from childhood: sledding is a fun experience for everyone. If you want something more, check out tobogganing, which is like extreme sledding and a way to get some thrills downhill. Also, sleds work great to transport beer and snacks from one location to another.
  • Snow golfing: This is a thing, it’s real, and it’s a whole lot of fun.
  • Winter art: When was the last time you built a snowman? Or flexed out a snow angle? Making some winter art is easy and fun and leads to endless possibilities of self-expression.
  • Winter Bonfire: You don’t have to be overtly active to get outside. A winter bonfire with friends is a fantastic way to enjoy the season.
  • Snowbank cooler: During your outdoor hang, throw some bottles and cans into the snowbank to cool down. With Eclipse being at 7% abv, you don’t have to worry about it freezing anytime soon.
  • Stargazing: If you can get away from light pollution, stargazing is always fun, especially in the winter. Clearer skies, longer nights, and, depending on where you are in the world, the potential to see the Northern Lights.
