REPORTS TO:  Safety Specialist 

FLSA POSITION TYPE: Variable Hours, Hourly (Paid) Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The Safety Intern will focus on learning, promoting and maintaining the Bell’s “safety always” culture.



• Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery.

• Audits, updates, and organizes Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and GHS container labeling for both Comstock Brewery and Downtown Retail Campus (DRC). 

• Conducts CO2 monitoring study and mapping.

• Creates Job Safety Analysis. 

• Conducts periodic audits for Zero Energy/Lock out- Tag out.

• Conducts general safety and PPE inspections.

• Audits Packaging PPE inventory and communicates needs to Safety Specialist.

• Assists in the development and delivery of safety trainings alongside the Safety Trainer.

• Develops and presents monthly Safety Talks and Safety Moments at team meetings. 

• Actively participates as a member of the Safety Committee.

• Creates an end-of- program presentation to be given to members of leadership team.

• Flexible work schedule, as weekends and extended workdays are necessary to accommodate all shifts.

• Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• General Office Equipment

• Industrial Hygiene monitoring equipment

• Company vehicle



• Basic knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA regulations and their application.

• Basic knowledge of Industrial Hygiene equipment and monitoring methods.

• A self-starter who can work independently with minimum supervision. 

• The ability to positively engage employees in support of safe work practices

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Excellent  written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups 

• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills base

• PC skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint)

• Organizational skills: must be able to efficiently multi-task and prioritize.



• Must be a junior, senior level or a recent graduate from an accredited program with an emphasis in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Management, or Fire Science.

• Prior experience in manufacturing and/or beverage production environment.

• Basic understanding of OSHA requirements.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, use a computer and other office equipment.

• The ability to travel to various industry events via car is required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

• This position works primarily in an office environment with regular trips into the brewery required. 

• The work environment is usually that of a retail, café, brewery and packaging facility.

• The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (80+ dB).

• The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.

• The employee works near moving mechanical parts.

• The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.

• The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.

• The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.

• The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.

• Flexible schedule to accommodate all production shifts.
